Constitution & Bylaws

CONSTITUTION OF THE ASSOCIATED ENGINEERING STUDENT BODY
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH

Preamble

We, the students of the College of Engineering, California State University of Long Beach, adopt this constitution to enhance cooperation among the administration, faculty, staff, and students of this college, and ensure the best possible educational environment relevant to our needs.

Article I. Name of Organization:

The name of the College Council of the College of Engineering (hereafter referred to as COE), at California State University at Long Beach (hereafter referred to as CSULB) shall be named the Associated Engineering Student Body (hereafter referred to as AESB).

Article II. Statement of Purpose:

The purpose of AESB shall be:

Section 1. To promote and maintain the establishment of student organizations within the COE.
Section 2. To act as liaison between the COE administration, faculty, recognized student organization, other student organizations and member of the COE student body.
Section 3. To provide a forum for the discussion and resolution of problems common to the students of the COE.
Section 4. To serve as a representative voice of the students of the COE on all matters concerning them.
Section 5. To stimulate interaction and interest between faculty and students of all academic areas in the COE.
Section 6. To act with the Faculty Council of the COE on matters on general concern of the welfare of the COE students.

Article III. Powers:

Section 1. Subject to the laws of the State of California, the regulations of the Board of Trustees of CSULB, the COE and the Associated Students, Inc. of CSULB, the AESB shall be the representative body of the COE students.
Section 2. The AESB may advise the COE Dean of its recommendations on matters concerning the general welfare of the COE students.
Section 3. The AESB may present to the Academic Senate of CSULB, the COE Faculty Council, or appropriate administrative officers of CSULB matters regarding general concern to the welfare of COE students.
Section 4. The AESB may present to the Associated Students Senate of CSULB, the appropriate student officers of CSULB, student organization officers, or the COE students, matters regarding general concern to the welfare of COE students.
Section 5. The AESB shall act as agents to request and disburse Associated Students, Inc. funds for the organizations represented by the council.
Section 6. The AESB shall in no manner restrict or control the internal policies o f the member organization’s policies unless it is in conflict with the AESB Constitution & Bylaws.

Article IV. Membership:

Section 1. The organization is free to accept new members without regard to sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, or veteran status.
Section 2. Regular membership is limited to all students registered in a department within the COE.
Section 3. Each member has equal rights and privileges.
Section 4. AESB voting members shall consist of the following:

  1. The Executive board, which shall be composed of the elected officers and appointed
    1. officers: President (who votes only in the case of a tie), Vice-President, Treasurer,
    2. Secretary, Webmaster, and the Standing Committee Chairpersons.
  2. A representative elected by each of the recognized organizations of the COE.
  3. Two Engineering Senators representing the Associated Students Senate.

Section 5. All voting members must be checked in at Roll Call.
Section 6. The AESB ex-officio non-voting members shall consist of the following:

  1. The Student Life & Development (SLD) advisor.
  2. The COE faculty/staff advisor.
